The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) is set to introduce rice under the “Bharat” brand in 5-kg and 10-kg packs. This move aims to reduce the prices of rice in the open market. Currently, high-quality rice is being sold for ₹75-80/kg and even ₹90/kg through online platforms. NAFED’s initiative will offer both boiled and raw rice at a more affordable price of ₹29/kg. The decision comes after NAFED’s successful efforts in selling wheat flour and chana dal to help control the prices of these commodities. The rice will be available through various channels, including small autorickshaws, vans, and Kendriya Bhandar stores. Consumer activist T. Sadagopan has raised questions about the age of the rice and the dal being sold, emphasizing the importance of transparency for packed commodities
